Note: This support article is part of a series for our payment plugin, Telegram Stars. If you have a question regarding this payment plugin that hasn't been answered, please contact your account manager or our engineering support team.

What are Telegram Stars?

We want you to think of Telegram Stars as a virtual currency that's built and powered by Telegram. You receive payments directly with Telegram Stars and here's the kicker: without any form of business verification.

What about my customers?

Your customers also aren't required to undergo any form of verification. They'll add their Debit or Credit card, or simply connect Apple/Google Pay, and they're all set.

How secure is my balance with Telegram Stars?

As your commerce infrastructure partner, Billgang does not hold or at any point have direct access to any of your payments. You'll receive Telegram Stars straight to your Telegram bot without any form of action taken on our end.

Note: As the owner of the bot, you are the only individual who can withdraw funds from the bot.

Why should I use Telegram Stars?

It's as simple as your customers being on Telegram. If you support the platform of choice for your customers, you'll (potentially) see conversions drive through the roof.

How can customers avoid the 30% commission fee on transactions?

Purchasing stars on mobile will cost 30% more due to Apple/Google’s in-app purchase fees. To avoid this fee, use a PC or @PremiumBot.

What business types are best recommended to accept Telegram Stars?

Our team holds the belief that if your business accepts payments online, there isn't a single reason why you shouldn't accept Telegram Stars as a payment type for your business.

You're in the business of making money. When you limit payment options from the potential of over 400,000,000 (hundreds of millions) of customers, then you're no longer competing in a hotly contested space.

If you're not, your competitors are. To get started, follow this guide here.

Why should I accept payments with Telegram Stars?

Understanding why your business should accept Telegram Stars as a payment type is a great first step to scaling your business on the Billgang platform. We strongly believe that there are very clear differentiators between businesses and their operators, but there's one thing that isn't, and that's the requirement, scratch that, demand of businesses actually getting paid.

When you're building your business, the ultimate goal at the end of the day is to look at your business wallet and monitor revenue.

If you're receiving payments but they're limited for over six months, withheld indefinitely for 'risk' purposes, or disputed by customers, your business is on the line.

But that's not the case with Telegram Stars. You're no longer strongly limited to what specific customer you can target or what digital products you can sell. It's time to focus on what matters — providing the best possible support to your customers.

  • instant payments without manual verifications required

  • multiple forms of mobile and digital payments supported (Google Pay, Apple Pay, Debit or Credit cards)

  • a simple one-click checkout flow that reduces the risk of abandonment

  • powerful analytics to view customer bot interactions

With Billgang, we take care of the operational backend of your business. This includes displaying any relevant information to your customers about what Telegram Stars is, what they can do to send and complete the payment, and then finally automatically delivering the digital product to their inbox.

That's all powered without a single human input.

What does the customer experience look like?

We've designed the payment flow from the ground up to be as simple as possible for customers across various backgrounds, whether or not English is their first language. Also, our checkout pages are automatically translated to the language of the customer based on their browser and extension settings.

This means that when your customer visits your checkout page on Billgang, they'll first be required to enter their email address and then select one of the available payment options that you have available:

  • Telegram stars

  • Google Pay

  • Apple Pay

  • Debit or Credit cards

Once they select a payment type, they'll automatically be redirected to your custom Telegram bot with a pre-defined amount of stars that's required to complete the payment (on average it'll take ~55 seconds to complete the payment if a customer has stars available in their balance).

After they've been redirected to your custom Telegram bot, the customer will be required to send the payment within the timeframe and once they tap "Pay", payments are processed instantly.

You, as the business executive, will receive a notification that the payment has been completed and that you've received stars directly to your Telegram bot balance.
